Volunteering opportunities at the Law Centre
The Law Centre has a dedicated and committed team of volunteers who donate their time, skills and experience and who provide valuable additional resources. We are keen to recruit volunteers who represent local communities.
Below are examples of how volunteers contribute to the running of the Law Centre.
Reception and admin volunteers
This involves:
- Provision of a professional reception service for all Law Centre staff, clients and other workers.
- Dealing with all general enquiries to the Law Centre either by telephone or with drop-in callers. This includes explaining Law Centre services and signposting callers to other agencies if we are unable to help.
- General administration as required including photocopying, filing, client surveys, data entry, word processing, assisting caseworkers etc.
Casework admin assistants
This involves working with one of our casework teams and assisting with a range of administrative tasks including:
- Updating information systems and library resources
- Research
- Casework administration including photocopying, filing, typing
Volunteer solicitors
The Law Centre currently has a number of volunteer solicitors. All our volunteer solicitors are required to have a current practising certificate. They are able to offer a free, one-off appointment for half an hour on either a Monday or Tuesday evening in the following areas of law:
- Education
- Employment
- Family
- General civil litigation and small claims
